Goals 2022
It’s this part of the year many of us take New Year resolutions to set new goals to achieve in the forthcoming year. How many of us have taken these resolutions or set new goals to achieve and nothing much has been done beyond just taking resolutions or set goals.
How many of us have given money to a Gym and not pursue beyond a week or two.
When it comes to workplace we set goals diligently and try very hard to meet it.
We write SMART goals and work relentlessly to achieve the organisation objectives and thus work towards our promotions and salary increases.
How many of us have goals that are in our personal domain ,such as health, relationships, wealth etc. and work on every day to achieve as we do at our workplace.?
Reflect on my question again. This is a very important one.
We all agree that we need to set goals in health, relationships, wealth, career etc.but again just setting a goal will not get to what we want to achieve.
We tend to set Result based goals such as
1.Shed weight by 10 kgs in the next 4 months.
Or
2.Have a target corpus of x Crs by 2025
But a result based goals as above alone cannot achieve what we want to. So what we need?
To achieve a result based goals we need to support it with a routine based goals.
Human mind gets into a state of Inaction, when there is lack of clarity in Action!
One may have a defined Result-based Goal like in the above example. But, if one is not clear on ‘what actions to do’ to reach the Result-based goal, one still stays in an Inactive state over time!
Hence the key Just by saying I want to shed weight of 10 kgs will not get what you want to achieve. One has to define a set of ‘routines’ that one needs to develop, quite consciously; a set of actions executed, on a consistent basis, periodically, systematically and in a disciplined manner.
The key here is periodicity. My mentor told me this powerful statement- we are what we do daily.
For the above Result based goals one could have a routine based goal as follows.
- Result Goal - Lose 10 Kgs of body weight in the next 4 months
- Routine Goals - Work-out in the gym for 20 minutes every day
- Drink 3 litres of water
- Eating Right - Home cooked food
- Create a daily habit - start the morning with a fruit
- Jog 20 minutes everyday
- Do rigorous work-our for 2 hours, once every week
- Have a target corpus of x crs by 202
- Track down expenses everyday
- Start a new SIP for Rs. xxxx/- every month
- Have a clear understanding of what to be spent on and how much to be spent on
- Learn the art of investing
- Identify a wealth expert and engage with him every month
While designing the result and routine based goal is the first step. this also can get derailed because of issues like laziness, lack of commitment/will-power/discipline etc...
For this one has to stay disciplined and determined.
