The Winning Mindset of Kapil Dev.
Today marks the 37th Anniversary of India's first world cup Cricket win in 1983.
Currently, The Indian cricket team is among the very best in the world. The change is majorly attributed to Kapil's devils that won the championship in 1983. What is even more incredible is that India was not even considered the dark horses for that world cup, yet they triumphed against all odds. This event changed the Indian Cricket forever.
One of the most significant factors behind this unprecedented success was the leadership of the then captain Kapil Dev. How did Kapil Dev manage to inspire a team that was not even expected to make it to the second round to go on and win the Coveted competition?
The Winning Mindset of Kapil Dev.
Kapil's biggest asset is his winning mind-set. He wasn't the most gifted batsman or bowler. Yet he proved that he would never give up on a result until the match was over. This was perfectly exemplified during India's penultimate match of the group stages.
What was expected to be an easy match for India against new-comers Zimbabwe turned out to be one of the best ever cricket Innings by an Individual. India had lost 7 wickets for just 78. Kapil Dev showed his team and the world how an attitude of never to give up by scoring 175 runs from just 138 balls could turn the tables.
Kapil 's "never give up" mindset is a critical attitude to have today as we fight COVID, Job losses Business losses. Uncertainty etc.
No one expected Kapil and his team to win, yet he did just that against all the odds because of the willpower and determination he had. We live in highly volatile times where nothing is certain, and there is no precedence.
As we celebrate this monumental achievement 37 years later, there is a valuable lesson in all of this that is perfectly applicable to our professional and personal lives in these trying times.
'How can we apply Kapil's winning mindset to our own life?"
Can we imbibe the willpower to fight on till the end like the 175 not out Kapil did against Zimbabwe?
Can we have the determination like the 1983 Indian cricket team to defend a paltry score of 183 against the Mighty Windies and create History?
Jai Hind !!
